Commuter Rewards Program
Commuters who bike or walk to work are eligible for the Commuter Rewards drawings each month. Just register to document your work commutes at one of these log sites. The more you log, the greater your changes of winning.
Guaranteed Ride Home
Those who bike or walk to work are automatically eligible for the Guaranteed Ride Home program. This free service from the Atlanta Regional Commission provides five taxi rides home per year in the event of unexpected circumstances (like mandatory unplanned overtime, illness, etc.) that prevent you from walking or cycling home.
Get on Your Feet
Thanks to the work of the Perimeter Community Improvement Districts (PCIDs), more than five miles of new sidewalks have been created, along with benches, newly-planted shade trees, and safer crosswalk signals, and there are more projects coming this year. Even if you can’t walk to work, consider walking to lunch, to the dry cleaners, to pick up office supplies, and more. Every little trip makes a difference in our air quality.
Get on Your Bike
Read about one passionate cyclist, Alex Olewicz, who rides 22 miles daily and helped start a bike expense reimbursement program at his workplace, St. Joseph’s Hospital.

REI‘s Perimeter location has a comprehensive bike department with all the services and supplies a cyclist might need. MARTA, GRTA Xpress, and CCT allow bikes on most trains and buses. This area is continuously improving its bicycle infrastructure. A dozen crisscrossing roads have extra-light traffic, including Crown Point Parkway, Central Parkway, Summit Blvd, Perimeter Center Parkway, and portions of Mt. Vernon Road. Exercise caution on the Perimeter Center Parkway bridge over I-285: expansion joints in the bridge pose a threat to bike wheels.
We offer Confident City Cycling classes at least once a year with the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition (ABC). Email us for info on the next class.

Better Biking Bill Now State Law
The Better Biking bill, HB101, went into effect Friday, July 1. The law does a lot of good things:
- Motor vehicles must provide at least three feet of safe passing distance when overtaking a bicyclist
- Cyclists may move to the center of the lane, i.e. take the lane, when surface obstructions, hazards or debris make traveling to the right unsafe
- Cyclists must travel in the direction of traffic while using a designated bicycle lane*
- Bicyclists have the right of way in a designated bicycle lane
- Designated bicycle lanes must be built according to recognized national design standards
* While the new law only specifies that cyclists in bike lanes must travel in the same direction as traffic, bicycles, as vehicles, must abide by all normal vehicular laws. Wrong way travel in any traffic lane is unlawful and unsafe.
Thanks to all who helped pass this landmark legislation!
